KIM BACH

Kim Bach moved her artist studio out of the Brooklyn Navy Yard in 2005 to set up in Hudson, New York, 2 hours north of Manhattan. She recalls that “Changing from the quiet East River and dry dock views of the Navy Yard studio to the hectic life of running a tea shop and gallery in Hudson has been a rough transition for my creative life” Yet, change has been a constant in her life. As a child, her father’s military career kept the family on the go, and she continued that habit as an adult. Most of her artistic career has been influenced by her years spent in Northern California. Her journey to New York was a return to her birthplace.

Bach’s artwork is larger than life, and bursting with color. Her fascination with organic form is balanced with the impact of abstraction that was her late aunt Lee Deffebach’s influence. Having received an MA from Long Island University, Brooklyn in Media Art/Photography in 2004, Bach is accustomed to looking for the photographic image, but painting is where the image truly comes alive for her.
